Pearly printing paste preparation and precautions

Pearlescent printing is a special effect printing method. With the unique pearl luster, the textile printing surface creates an elegant, magnificent, luxurious, chic, soft and pleasing visual effect. It is unique in many printing methods and has become widely popular. A dress decoration technique.

Pearlescent printing paste formula

12-15% 600 mesh pearlescent pigment

2% propylene glycol

30-40% Adhesive R-834

X% synthetic thickener KG-2015

Precautions when mixing

1 In the preparation of pearlescent printing paste, the glittering effect of pearlescent pigments is passive, that is, the glittering effect can only be displayed under the conditions of light. In order to fully display the pearlescent characteristics, the following relations must be noted: the size of the film and the flash effect, flash intensity , cohesion, and the relationship between suspension settling in the binder.

2 When preparing, first mix the pearlescent pigment with solvent or binder, and gently stir so as not to scratch the coating layer of the pigment and destroy the pearlescent effect. As time goes on, pearlescent pigments will be deposited and it is best to use them now.

3Because pearl powder is a kind of translucent micro-flaky pigment, it is easy to cause flying. Ingredient accidentally inhales lungs and affects health. Wear masks and rubber gloves during operation. Because pearlescent pigments have excellent dispersing power, they can be blended into the printing material with gentle stirring to avoid mechanical high-speed beating, so as not to damage the surface gloss of the pigment. The pigments that will be carefully removed to prevent flying are soaked for 30 minutes with 30% ethyl acetate or isopropanol and then conditioned.

4 As far as possible, use transparent materials to avoid affecting the pearlescent effect. Pearlescent printing paste should have good fluidity, so that during the printing, the titanium mica pearl flakes and the printed surface have a parallel orientation process, so that the pearlescent pigments can show the best pearlescent effect.

5 When the pearlescent pigment is mixed with the same color or white common pigment, the pearlescent powder will lose the pearlescent effect, but when combined with the dark pigment, a strong pearlescent effect is exhibited. This is mainly due to the low light scattering content of the dark pigment and the pearlescent pigment. Caused by strong hiding power.

Printing process

Screen Printing → Drying → Baking (140°C, 90 seconds).

Pearlescent pigments can be formulated for various printing applications. The use of mica titanium pearlescent pigments with different particle sizes will change from soft to shiny pearls. Small size, large hiding power, soft gloss like silk. Large particle size hiding power, gloss gradually increased to flicker, generally according to printing requirements and printing methods to consider what size of pearlescent pigments.

1 In screen printing, pearlescent screen printing has been widely used in textile screen printing because of the chemical resistance of pearlescent pigments and the post-printing process does not affect the pearlescent effect. Pearlescent pigments can be used in all screen printing ink systems (print pastes), but are best suited for clear ink systems. If the pearlescent pigment is pre-wet and dispersed, it will be better mixed with the ink. The amount of pearlescent pigment added to printing ink in screen printing is generally 8%-15% of finished ink.
